Chelo's Brick & Stone doesn't charge for an in-person site visit anywhere in its normal service area around Hillsville, Galax, Wytheville, Fancy Gap, and Independence. Some contractors do charge a trip or consultation fee, especially for jobs well outside their usual territory or ones that call for specialized diagnostic work, but a standard walkthrough for brick, stone, chimney, or hardscape work doesn't cost anything with us.
Charging for a site visit isn't unusual in the trades. Contractors who cover a wide territory sometimes charge a trip fee to cover fuel and time, and some credit that fee toward the job if they're hired, or use it to filter out inquiries that aren't serious. It's a reasonable business decision, it just isn't how we handle it for jobs within our normal service area.
A site visit with us is a working walkthrough, not a sales pitch. We look at the actual brick, stone, chimney, or ground in question, take measurements, check existing condition, and talk through options before anything goes in writing. That visit is what the written estimate is built on, and it doesn't come with a bill attached.
The one place cost could enter the conversation is a job well outside our normal driving range, such as farther over the North Carolina line than we typically go. In that case we'd talk through logistics on the phone first rather than springing a surprise fee on someone after the fact. For anything within Hillsville, Galax, Wytheville, Fancy Gap, or Independence, the visit and the estimate that follows it are both free, no matter how the project turns out.
